I bought this site from the infamous "Rich Jerk" in 2004. He showed me proof that he had made around $2 Million with it in about a year and a half. I bought it for 6 figures and
I ended up making back 4 times the purchase price.
In 2004, Google and the U.S. government were beginning to crack down on pharmacy related websites. Especially those that encouraged buying meds overseas. Why?
1) Pharmaceutical lobbyists have DEEP pockets. They apply pressure to government representatives, "encouraging" them to ban people from going outside of the USA to get meds. Therefore laws are
passed. That's just how it works. Pharmaceutical companies in the USA make profits that are 1000 times more than those of other countries. They want to continue to bilk US residents, while other countries offer the same meds for 1000% less.
2) The meds in the foreign countries are made by the EXACT SAME MANUFACTURERS as those in the USA. Therefore, the price difference is obvious price gouging. Its unneccesary & unfair, but its just too profitable for pharmaceutical companies to pass on. They don't need a conscience when they're making $BILLIONS.
So, in order to keep the site active, and give people access to inexpensive, cheap medicine, I had to incorporate my company in Gibraltar. Getting a merchant account, hosting account, and an affiliate network to stay on board with me was still difficult though. I ended up using IBill for processing, IpowerWeb for hosting, and ClickXchange for affiliates.
I made an absolute killing. Good thing the Rich Jerk was too lazy to re-incoporate in Gibraltar, and jump through all of the hoops that I did. Eventually though, the site began to run its course. IBill basically went under, and I (as well as many others) had to sue them to get the funds they still owed me. So my merchant account was gone. Then, Ipowerweb got a cease and desist letter from the government, so they dropped my site. Then my affiliate program obviously died. Rather than continue to look over my shoulder every time a black sedan with tinted windows drove by, I let the site die out.
Funny thing is, a representative from Ibill contacted me and wanted to breathe new life into the site. He wanted to go into business. He had just quit Ibill. He flew out to LA and met with me. He introduced me to his partners. They picked my brain but we hadn't signed any agreements, so I was suspicious. Unfortunately the former Ibill rep knew many of my passwords from when I was with them, and knew the inner workings of the site, the dollar amounts, the affiliates etc. After he picked my brain, we were talking about potentially re-creating the site outside of the USA, using a foreign merchant account, foreign hosting, and a foreign affiliate program. I would also have to keep the income in another country as well. Sounded a little fishy to me. But a few days later these guys told me that they had decided they would just copy my site themselves, and they didn't need me. I was a little angry, but didn't care too much at this point. I was on to bigger and better things.. In conclusion I know I made the right decision because all of the guys I met with are now in jail. Apparently they not only provided a list of foreign pharmacies, but they also decided it would be more profitable to actually start their own in-house pharmacy and sell the drugs themselves. Big mistake.
Anyway, it was fun while it lasted, and even though the government was breathing down my neck, it was exciting. I learned a lot, and I'm thankful the Rich Jerk enabled me to go through this experience.
